Numerical Data:
A Regular jet Engine releases roughly 53 pounds of Carbon Dioxide per Nautical Mile. My improved jet engine releases about 39.75 pounds of Carbon Dioxide per nautical Mile. That is 25% less carbon dioxide per flight, per day.
Materials:
Carbon Fiber and Aluminium Composites can be recycled using a process call pyrolysis. This means that the lifetime of the material can be extended by recycling the material and repurpose it into different parts of the airplane.
Fuel Consumption:
Fuel Consumption is lowered by almost 25%. With an electric/ gas hybrid engine it allows maximized efficiency and less lag time between inlet and exhaust cycles.
Maintenance
Maintenance makes up for 11% of operating costs
by redesigning the jet engine and by incorporating more durable material and an advanced filtration system the airplane as a whole require 50% less maintenance.
versatility:
The versatility of my jet engine allows multiple applications to the real world. This jet engine can used for commercial use on large commercial jets or it can used for military purposes. Drones are an upcoming field in the aviation industry but they also have a major vulnerability due to heir size and their dynamics
The Inspiration for my project was US Airways flight 1549. After tragically performing a water ditching in the Hudson River I noticed how vulnerable our jet engines were. If my jet engine had been implemented in this situation hundred of lives would not have been put at risk. This design could save hundreds of lives and prevent incidents such as this.
Inspiration for the Design:
The inspiration for this design came from the Dyson Blade less fan. Although fans and jet engines are two different parallels a lot of the characteristic are the same. By adapting those attributes I was able to create my experimental jet engine.
Functionality:
The data suggest that the functionality of the design is on par with both FAA regulations as well as industry standards
